Sereflikochisar Municipality

The swimming pool project of Sereflikochisar Municipality was initiated with the aim of creating a pleasant area for the residents and increasing the prestige of the municipality. However, the condition of the old pool turned out to be worse than initially anticipated. The waterproofing under the existing ceramic coating had completely lost its function, with cracks and bulges in some places. This situation was causing water loss and endangering the structural integrity of the pool. The importance of the project was not only to create a new pool but also to strengthen the existing structure to ensure long-lasting and safe use. The first step was to prepare the existing ceramic surface. A diamond-tipped light grinding machine was used to remove the gloss from the ceramics and to ensure better adhesion of the new coating. This process roughened the surface, increasing the adhesion of the epoxy primer. Then, the broken and damaged ceramics were carefully repaired. This stage was critical to ensure the flatness of the floor and prevent water leaks. After the floor was prepared, the epoxy primer was applied. The epoxy primer filled the pores of the floor, creating an excellent base for the polyurea coating. The reason for choosing the epoxy primer was its high adhesion property and water resistance. After the primer dried, the 2 mm thick pure polyurea coating, which would provide the pool's waterproofing, was applied. Polyurea was an ideal waterproofing material due to its flexibility, durability, and fast curing properties. The application of polyurea by spraying method provided a complete and continuous coating on the surface. Thus, water was prevented from leaking through even the smallest crack or gap. Finally, aliphatic paint was applied to improve the aesthetic appearance of the pool and provide protection against UV rays. Aliphatic paint provided a coating that is resistant to color fading and long-lasting. Thanks to this paint, the pool gained a more vibrant and attractive appearance. At the end of the project, the swimming pool of Sereflikochisar Municipality not only got rid of the water insulation problem but also became more modern and useful. The pool was put into service as a safe and aesthetic space where the townspeople can enjoy spending time.
