This project, rising on the foundations of Nisantasi University, was actually born to solve an invisible but vital problem: Water insulation. The inadequacy of previous applications was causing water leakage from the cold joints between the foundation and curtain concrete. This situation threatened the structural integrity of the building and had the potential to cause problems such as moisture and mold in the interiors. Our aim was to provide a long-lasting and effective waterproofing solution that would secure the future of the university. Our first step was to conduct a detailed inspection to determine where the water was coming from and from which points it was leaking. As a result of this examination, it was determined that the cold joints at the junction of the foundation and curtain concrete were the main source of the problem. We conducted a meticulous research on the material to be used and decided that polyurethane injection was the most appropriate solution to this problem. Polyurethane, thanks to its high elasticity, can absorb the movements in the structure, fill the cracks and create a waterproof barrier. In addition, we aimed to minimize the application time with its fast curing feature and not disrupt the daily operation of the university. We started the application process by cleaning the areas where the leaks were. Then, we drilled injection holes into the cold joints at certain intervals. From these holes, we injected polyurethane injection material with the help of high-pressure pumps. Polyurethane penetrated into the joints, filling the voids and acting as a plug preventing the passage of water. After the injection process was completed, we closed the holes with special filling materials and flattened the surface. With the completion of the project, water leakage in the foundation and curtain concrete was completely eliminated. Nisantasi University has acquired a structure that can look to the future with confidence on solid foundations. The polyurethane injection application not only provided water insulation but also increased the value of the building by extending its lifespan. This project is one of the best examples of how problems can be solved permanently with the right material selection and professional application.
