We set out to provide a permanent solution to the insulation problems of the Ministry of Justice's lodgings. This project aimed not only to extend the life of the buildings but also to create comfortable and healthy living spaces. In particular, water leaks in the basement floors were causing both structural damage and a reduction in the quality of life. Our aim was to solve these problems at their root, ensuring that ministry employees live in better conditions. Before starting the work, we carried out a detailed inspection. We detected water ingress in the basement curtain walls, at the joints with the foundation (cold joints), and from tie rod holes. The damage caused by water at these points had caused the plaster to blister and the screed to be damaged. Therefore, as a first step, we scraped off the existing plaster and broke the damaged screed. We opened an area of 30 cm wide along the outer curtain walls until we reached the main concrete. To stop water leakage at the cold joints, we applied Köster KB-Pur In 7 injection. This polyurethane-based injection resin expands rapidly when it comes into contact with water, preventing the passage of water. We carried out the injection process by inserting packers every 15 cm, reaching every point where water was leaking. We repaired the tie rod holes in the curtain walls with a waterproof and high-adhesion repair mortar. We also added latex to the mortar to increase its durability. Finally, we insulated all curtain wall surfaces with Köster NB System. This system is a mineral-based waterproofing material resistant to negative water pressure. Köster NB System penetrates the concrete, forming crystals and ensuring the concrete is waterproof. In this way, we completely prevented water from seeping in from the outside. After the application, the basement floors became dry and moisture-free. This project demonstrated how successful results can be achieved in waterproofing with the right choice of materials and meticulous application. By completely solving the water leakage problem in the Ministry of Justice's lodgings, we created comfortable and healthy living spaces. The successful results have been a source of inspiration for our future projects.
