At Medipol University Kavacık Campus, we set out to provide a long-lasting and reliable waterproofing solution while preserving the elegance of modern architecture. Our aim was to protect the terrace areas against all kinds of weather conditions, creating safe and comfortable spaces where students and staff could enjoy spending time. To this end, we carried out a two-layer Polyurea application, both under and over the screed. Our project was a new and ambitious one that we were involved in from the design stage. As a first step, we cleaned the terrace surfaces with a diamond-tipped grinding machine to make them perfect. This process removed dust, dirt, and loose particles from the concrete, ensuring that the epoxy primer adhered perfectly to the surface. The epoxy primer strengthened the concrete surface, laying the foundation for a longer-lasting Polyurea coating. After the epoxy primer application, we applied a 2 mm thick pure Polyurea coating by spraying. Thanks to its high elasticity and fast curing properties, Polyurea created an excellent barrier against water on the terrace surface. The biggest factor in choosing this material was its superior resistance to UV rays, chemicals, and mechanical abrasion. Finally, we applied aliphatic paint to the Polyurea coating to complete the aesthetic appearance and increase UV resistance. Aliphatic paint provided high resistance to color fading, ensuring that the terraces retained their original vibrancy for many years. Thanks to this meticulous and careful application, the terraces at Medipol University Kavacık Campus were fully protected against water. Students and staff can now enjoy spending time on the terraces without worrying about the adverse effects of rain, snow, or sun. Our project not only provided waterproofing but also increased the aesthetic value of the terraces, adding value to the university campus.
