The water leakage problem in the terrace areas of Liv Hospital was disrupting hospital operations and threatening the building's health. Therefore, the hospital management sought a permanent and effective waterproofing solution. Our aim was to provide definitive waterproofing in the 1000 m² terrace area, preventing potential water damage and creating a healthier hospital environment. The selection of materials to be used in the project was made considering their longevity, durability, and suitability for human health. First, the existing ceramic surface needed to be prepared. The glossy surface of the ceramics would make it difficult for the new coating to adhere. Therefore, the gloss on the surface of the ceramics was removed with a diamond-tipped light grinding machine. Broken and damaged ceramics were identified and repaired. After the surface preparation was completed, the epoxy primer application was started. The epoxy primer strengthens the surface and allows the polyurea coating to adhere better to the ground. Then, the application of 2 mm thick pure polyurea, which forms the basis of waterproofing, was started. Polyurea is an ideal waterproofing material due to its high elasticity and absolute impermeability to water. Its resistance to expansion and contraction, especially on terraces, offers a long-lasting solution. The biggest challenge we faced during the application was isolating around the ventilation units in the terrace area. The complex geometry of these units required careful and precise application. Thanks to the rapid curing property of polyurea, this challenge was overcome, and the surroundings of the units were perfectly isolated. Finally, an aliphatic paint application was applied to increase resistance to UV rays and weather conditions. Aliphatic paint protects the color of the polyurea coating and provides an aesthetic appearance for many years. At the end of the project, the waterproofing problem in the terrace areas of Liv Hospital was permanently resolved. Thanks to the applied system, water leaks have been completely prevented, the building's health has been protected, and the uninterrupted continuity of hospital operations has been ensured. The project was successfully completed thanks to the quality of the materials used, the diligence of the application team, and the correct engineering solutions.
