In this project reflecting Istinye University's forward-looking vision, we carried out a comprehensive water and thermal insulation study to increase the longevity and energy efficiency of the buildings. The main objective of the project was to maximize the comfort of students and faculty members while minimizing energy consumption and demonstrating an environmentally sensitive approach. During the project, we first paid great attention to ground preparation. On an area of 22,000 square meters, we meticulously polished the concrete surfaces with diamond-tipped hand-held grinding machines to obtain a smooth and clean surface. This process was a critical step to ensure that the materials to be applied adhere perfectly to the surface. Immediately afterward, we applied an Epoxy Primer. The epoxy primer filled the pores of the concrete surface, increasing the adhesion of the Polyurea coating to be applied, while also acting as a barrier that extends the life of the concrete. For waterproofing, our choice was Superior Pure Polyurea. We applied this material with a thickness of 2 mm. Thanks to its flexible structure, it adapted to ground movements and prevented crack formation. At the same time, thanks to its high resistance to UV rays and chemicals, it would maintain its performance for many years. For thermal insulation, we used Spray Polyurethane Foam. Applied with a thickness of 3 cm, this foam significantly increased the energy efficiency of the buildings thanks to its excellent thermal insulation values. The spray application created a continuous insulation layer by filling all the gaps on the surface. Finally, Geo Textile Felt was laid as a protective layer. This felt was laid on the Polyurethane foam, providing additional protection against mechanical impacts and extending the life of the floor covering. The project was successfully completed thanks to meticulous planning and the dedicated work of our expert teams. Istinye University now has energy-efficient and comfortable buildings that are protected at the highest level in terms of water and thermal insulation. This project made a significant contribution to the university's sustainability goals and became a success story that will set an example for future projects.
