At Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport, we set out to completely solve the water insulation problem on the roofs of aircraft service areas. The aim was to protect the airport's infrastructure and provide a long-lasting solution by preventing water leaks in the gutters. While undertaking this critical task, we sought the highest level of quality and durability in material selection. The hero of our project was a three-stage system: epoxy primer, pure polyurea, and aliphatic paint. First, we applied the epoxy primer by cleaning and roughening the surface. This primer ensured that the polyurea adhered perfectly to the surface, forming the basis of waterproofing. The most important factor in choosing the epoxy primer was its superior adhesion to concrete surfaces and its resistance to corrosion. Then, pure polyurea came into play. This material is known for its exceptional flexibility and complete water insulation properties. Applied at a thickness of 2 mm, the polyurea created a perfect barrier in the gutters, completely preventing the passage of water. Thanks to the rapid curing property of polyurea, we significantly shortened the duration of our project. During application, we took care to ensure that the polyurea was distributed homogeneously and that air bubbles did not form. Finally, we applied aliphatic paint to protect the surface from UV rays and external factors. This paint extended the life of the polyurea coating while also providing an aesthetic appearance. The most important reason for choosing aliphatic paint was its color durability and chemical resistance. Our project was more than just a waterproofing job; it was an investment in the long-term success of Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport. Thanks to the quality of the materials we used and our meticulousness in the application process, we have safely protected the airport's infrastructure. By demonstrating our expertise in waterproofing, we achieved a result that exceeded expectations.
