In this project, realized with the vision of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality to contribute to the city's aesthetics and extend the life of the infrastructure, we aimed to provide effective protection against corrosion at the junction points of the steel constructions of vertical gardens along the roadsides. The importance of the project is to ensure the sustainability of green areas in the city, as well as to ensure the longevity of structural elements such as concrete and steel. In this way, it is aimed to reduce the maintenance costs of public spaces and use resources more efficiently. During the implementation of the project, firstly, the joints of the steel constructions were carefully sanded with a hand-held sander in order to eliminate the effects of rust and corrosion and to prepare the surface for coating. Then, after the surface was completely cleaned, a 2 mm thick pure polyurea coating was applied to provide the highest level of protection against corrosion. Pure polyurea is an ideal material for such applications with its high elasticity, fast curing property and waterproof structure. Thanks to its excellent adhesion to concrete and steel surfaces, it creates a reliable barrier against corrosion for many years. After the polyurea application, aliphatic paint was used to improve the aesthetic appearance and provide additional protection against UV rays. Aliphatic paints are especially preferred for exterior applications due to their property of maintaining their colors for a long time and their UV resistance. In this way, the steel constructions of vertical gardens are both protected against corrosion and made more visually appealing. The success of the project was achieved thanks to the quality of the materials used and the meticulousness in the application process. The combination of pure polyurea and aliphatic paint provides a long-lasting solution against corrosion while also contributing positively to the city's aesthetics. This project has been an exemplary application for similar infrastructure projects.
