Istanbul Lyceum

This special insulation project, which we carried out to protect the historical texture of Galatasaray High School while increasing the comfort of students and teachers, aimed to eliminate the negative effects of water leaks. Our priority in this project, which we implemented in a wet area of approximately 200 square meters, was to provide a long-lasting solution without compromising on quality. The preparation of the existing ceramic surfaces was of great importance in the first phase of the project. We used a diamond-tipped light grinding machine to remove the gloss from the ceramics and roughen the surface. This process would allow the epoxy primer to adhere better to the surface. Broken or damaged ceramics were meticulously repaired, thus ensuring the smoothness of the surface. Then, the epoxy primer application was started. The epoxy primer strengthened the surface while also preparing an excellent base for the polyurea coating. The reason for choosing the epoxy primer was its excellent adhesion property and its ability to create a moisture barrier. When it came to the pure polyurea application, which is the heart of the insulation, we used a high-performance material with a thickness of 2mm. The reason for choosing pure polyurea was its exceptional waterproofing property, high elasticity, and fast curing time. Thanks to this, while the application time was shortened, we obtained a durable and long-lasting surface. The rapid curing of polyurea ensured that the school's educational activities continued without interruption. This project was not only a waterproofing application, but also an expression of our respect for a historical educational institution and a contribution to the education of students in a healthier environment. As a result of the application, water leakage problems were completely eliminated, and the wet areas of Galatasaray High School were made safe for use for many years to come.
