In this project, where we undertook the terrace roof insulation of 16 branches of Garanti Bank throughout Turkey, our aim was to provide a definitive and long-lasting solution to the water leakage problem experienced by the buildings. Terrace roofs are one of the most sensitive points in terms of waterproofing due to their direct exposure to weather conditions. Therefore, the quality of the materials we used in our project and the application techniques were of great importance. In the first stage, we evaluated the condition of the existing ceramic surfaces. We carefully sanded the surfaces with a diamond-tipped light grinding machine to remove the gloss from the ceramic and ensure better adhesion of the new insulation materials. This process roughened the surface, increasing the adhesion of subsequent layers. Cracked and damaged ceramics were identified and repaired with special ceramic repair mortars. These repairs were critical to ensure that the insulation could be applied homogeneously. After surface preparation, epoxy primer was applied as the first layer. The epoxy primer penetrates deeply into the surface, strengthening it and creating an excellent base for the next layer, pure polyurea. The reason for choosing epoxy primer is its high adhesion strength, chemical resistance, and waterproof properties. As a second layer, 2mm thick pure polyurea was applied. Polyurea is an ideal waterproofing material for terrace roofs due to its elasticity, high tensile strength, and fast curing properties. Since polyurea is applied by spraying, it creates a seamless insulation layer on the surface without joints. This feature minimizes the risk of water leakage. In addition, polyurea exhibits high resistance to UV rays, temperature changes, and chemical substances. Finally, aliphatic paint was applied on the polyurea. Aliphatic paint protects the polyurea from UV rays, extending its lifespan and providing an aesthetic appearance. The reason for choosing aliphatic paint is its UV resistance, color stability, and easy-to-clean properties. In this way, terrace roofs maintain their original appearance for many years. Our project has successfully solved the water leakage problem in Garanti Bank branches and contributed to protecting the bank's reputation. Thanks to the quality of the materials used, the expertise of the application team, and the attention to detail, a long-lasting and reliable solution has been provided. This project has once again proven the importance of choosing the right materials and professional application techniques in waterproofing.
