We implemented a waterproofing project on an area of 3000 m² to ensure the durability of Galatasaray University's valuable structures for many years and to provide a safe environment for its students. This project was not just an insulation application, but also an investment in the future of the university. Our goal was to protect the structures from the negative effects of water, thereby increasing the comfort and safety of students and faculty members. At the beginning of the project, we conducted soil surveys and detailed surface analyses. The condition of the existing concrete surface was critical to the success of the insulation. Therefore, our first step was to smooth the concrete with a diamond-tipped grinding machine. This process cleaned the surface of dust, dirt, and loose particles, ensuring that the epoxy primer adhered perfectly to the concrete. Next, we applied the epoxy primer. The epoxy primer acted as a bridge between the concrete surface and the polyurea coating, increasing adhesion strength and reducing the surface's absorbency. The choice of epoxy primer was made to provide long-lasting insulation due to its high penetration properties and chemical resistance. When it came to the application of pure polyurea, which is the heart of the insulation, we took care to select a material of the highest quality and performance. The 2 mm thick pure polyurea coating is a superior insulation material known for its waterproofness, elasticity, and abrasion resistance. Applied by spraying, the polyurea created a continuous and seamless membrane on the surface, preventing water from passing through even the smallest leakage point. This material also stands out for its resistance to sudden temperature changes, which was a great advantage considering the climatic conditions of the region where Galatasaray University is located. Finally, we applied aliphatic paint to improve the aesthetic appearance of the surface and provide protection against UV rays. Aliphatic paint is a long-lasting coating material with high UV resistance and resistance to color fading. This paint protected the polyurea coating from the harmful effects of the sun, extending the life of the insulation, while also giving the surface an aesthetic appearance. The project was completed with a success beyond our expectations. Galatasaray University's structures are now fully protected against water and can look to the future with confidence. Our students and faculty members will be able to continue their education and teaching activities in a healthier and more comfortable environment, free from the problems caused by water leaks.
