Marine Vehicles

Protecting marine vehicles against harsh conditions is critical for long-lasting and safe voyages. Polyurea coating is an ideal solution for increasing the durability and ensuring the waterproofness of a wide range of marine vehicles, from fishing boats to yachts, ferries to ship compartments. With superior physical and chemical properties compared to traditional coating methods, polyurea exhibits high resistance to abrasion, corrosion, UV rays, and chemicals. Its rapid curing property shortens the application time and ensures that the marine vehicle is ready for reuse in the shortest possible time. Thanks to its high flexibility, it adapts to the movements of the marine vehicle and prevents cracking. Polyurea coatings used in the maritime sector should be selected and applied in accordance with international standards (e.g., IMO). With proper surface preparation, primer selection, and application techniques, the performance and lifespan of the polyurea coating can be maximized. Applications performed by certified applicators are important for the quality and longevity of the coating. Polyurea coating on marine vehicles not only provides protection but also improves aesthetic appearance and reduces maintenance costs. In the long run, polyurea coating preserves the value of marine vehicles and increases operational efficiency.

Fishing Boat Polyurea Application

The polyurea coating applied to the fishing boat extends the life of the boat by providing waterproofing and abrasion resistance.

Application Process

1

Surface Preparation

Metal surfaces are cleaned by sandblasting to SA 2.5 standard. Wood and composite surfaces are sanded and dust-free. Humidity control is performed in internal volumes (critically important for wood and composites) and the humidity ratio is reduced to the appropriate level. All surfaces are wiped with solvent-based cleaners to remove oil, dirt, and other residues. The aim is to ensure that the polyurea coating adheres perfectly to the surface.

2

Primer Application

Corrosion-inhibiting zinc phosphate-based epoxy primer is applied for metal surfaces. For wood and composite surfaces, solvent-free epoxy primer that penetrates the surface and increases adhesion is used. Primer application ensures better adhesion of the polyurea coating to the surface and provides additional protection against corrosion.

3

Polyurea Coating Application

A minimum of 2mm polyurea is applied to areas such as internal tanks, decks, and holds using high-pressure (2000-3000 psi) spray equipment. The application can be done in multiple layers. Ambient temperature and humidity are taken into account during application. The applied polyurea cures in a short time (5-10 seconds) and becomes ready for use.

4

Inspection and Topcoat (Optional)

Surface smoothness, coating thickness (checked with an ultrasonic thickness gauge), and sealing are checked in detail. If necessary, UV-resistant, aliphatic topcoat paint is applied to increase the resistance of the polyurea coating to UV rays and improve its aesthetic appearance. The topcoat paint is usually applied in a thickness of 50-75 microns.

Application Process Summary

The process, which consists of surface preparation, primer application, high-pressure polyurea spray application, and quality control stages, guarantees the long-lasting and safe use of marine vehicles. All steps are performed by certified experts.
